NEUROTOXINS

What Are Neurotoxins?

Injectable neurotoxins, such as Dysport and Botox, are purified proteins derived from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. These neurotoxins work by gently and temporarily reducing muscle activity through the inhibition of nerve signals to the muscles. This allows wrinkles and other features to relax and fade away. The effects of these treatments typically last for several months, after which the treatment can be repeated to maintain the desired results.

About the Procedure

The procedure for getting neurotoxin injections is relatively quick and straightforward. It typically begins with a consultation where we assesses your facial structure and discuss your goals and any concerns. During the treatment, the provider cleanses the injection sites and may apply a topical anesthetic to minimize discomfort. Using a fine needle, the neurotoxin is then injected into specific muscles in small amounts. The entire procedure usually takes about 10 to 30 minutes, depending on the number of areas being treated. Patients may experience mild redness, swelling, or bruising at the injection sites, but these effects typically subside within a few days. Full results are generally visible within a week, with the effects lasting for several months before a follow-up treatment is needed to maintain the results.

Benefits

Dysport and Botox offer a range of benefits, both cosmetic and medical. Cosmetically, they effectively reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, particularly on the forehead, around the eyes (crow's feet), and between the eyebrows (glabellar lines). These treatments provide a non-invasive alternative to surgical procedures, with minimal downtime and quick recovery, producing natural-looking results when administered by a skilled professional. The treatment sessions are typically short, often completed within 10 to 30 minutes, making them convenient for busy schedules. Additionally, regular use can prevent the development of deeper lines and wrinkles over time by limiting repetitive facial movements.

Pre-Care

Post-Care

  • Avoid taking blood thinners: Medications like ibuprofen increase your risk of bleeding and bruising at the injection site.

  • Avoid consuming alcohol due to the natural thinning of the blood that is caused. Ideally, this should be 24 hours before your procedure.

  • Do not lie head down flat, touch, or rub the treated areas for at least 4 hours.

  • Avoid Aspirin, Motrin, Gingko Biloba, Garlic, Flax Oil, Cod Liver Oil, Vitamin A, Vitamin E, or any other essential fatty acids at least 3 days to 1 week after treatment.

  • Consult with your provider for more tips and any post procedure questions.
